Dr. Richard K. Brown, 66 of Sauk Rapids, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 25, 2011 at 10:30 am at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins with interment in the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. Fr. John Brunner will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 pm on Sunday and from 9 - 10 am on Monday at the Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins. Parish rosary will be at 4 pm on Sunday at the funeral home followed by Masonic services at 5 pm.
Dr. Richard K. Brown was born on May 18, 1945 at Hollywood, California, the son of Jerry and Lillian (Knight) Brown. He grew up and received his primary education in California. Richard served his country in the Marines and he furthered his education earning his Master's and PhD Degrees. Richard was employed at the University of Minnesota for 10 years and at Benson Optical for about 10 years. In the early 1980's, he started his own business, Professional Hearing and Audiology Services in St. Cloud which he operated to the current time. Richard was a founding father of the MN Audiology Assn. and was a member of the American Academy of Audiologists. His hobbies included antique cars and he was president of the St. Cloud Osman Zagalas Shrine Car Club and a past president of the Pan Town Car Club. He was also treasurer of the North Star Masonic Lodge, secretary of the St. Cloud Shrine Club, and vice president of the Osman Shrine Go-Kart Club. Richard enjoyed driving go-karts in parades, visiting with people, and sharing his sense of humor. He also enjoyed studying history, especially Civil War history and he collected Civil War artifacts.
Richard is survived by his fiancAC.e', Sandra Lang of Champlin; Sandra's children, Jamie Lang of Garden Grove, CA, Nathan Lang and his friend, Stacey Scott of Bloomington; sister and brother-in-law, Lauana and Al Hart of Huntington Beach, CA; nieces and nephew, Andra and James Colman of Huntington Beach, CA, Jenny Hart of Garden Grove, CA, Jon Hart of Huntington Beach, CA; cousins, Lyndal Rieger of Rochester , Robert and Sheila Foster of Mlps.; and his extended family, Rosie Loch of Watkins, Delores and Norman Nistler of South St. Paul, Jeanette Linn of Annandale, Gene and Sherri Asfeld of Watkins, Art Asfeld of Watkins, Linda Schoeben of Brooklyn Park, LouAnn and John Garding of Watkins, Becky Garding, Collin of Watkins, Leah Garding, fiance' Tim Eiynk, Emmitt of Kimball, Josh Garding of Cold Spring, and Frank Mayers of St. Paul. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Lillian Brown; special Mother, Mathilda Asfeld; extended brothers-in-law, Albert Linn and Vernon Loch.
