Douglas G. Kranz, age 83, of Litchfield, died on November 23, 2010 in Litchfield. Funeral services will be held on 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 27, 2010 at First Lutheran Church in Litchfield with Pastor Christa Forsythe officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Douglas Glen Kranz the son of Gerald and Ione (Jobes) was born on June 28, 1927 in Robbinsdale, MN. He grew up working on his father's farm in Robbinsdale. He met and married Grace Anonby on July 10, 1948 at Mount Olivet Church in Minneapolis. He farmed with his dad for a couple of years, but his dream was to have a farm of his own. After two years of marriage he bought a small farm near Rush City, only two years later a tornado went thru and destroyed every building except the house. Forced to sell out, he farmed on shares in Harris, MN, eventually purchasing the farm. In 1973, he purchased a farm in Litchfield where he farmed until he retired. He and his wife moved into a house in Litchfield in 2004. Doug enjoyed playing cards, tractor pulls, having coffee with friends, his draft horses and hunting deer on his farm in Rush City and later on, his farm in Litchfield. Later on he made several trips with sons and grandsons to Wyoming and Montana for more deer.
Doug is survived by his wife of 62 years, Grace of Litchfield; his daughters Barbara Peterson of Crystal, Joanne (Don) Kern of Eagan, Lisa (Mike) Steichen of Litchfield and sons Doug, Jr. (Harriet) Kranz of Litchfield, and Jeff (Karen) Kranz of Litchfield. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Shelly Confair, Robin Yardley, Jason Kern, Christopher Kern, Ben Kranz, Luke Kranz, Nick Kranz, Jacob Steichen, Mathew Steichen and Adam Steichen, great grandchildren, Malenny Kranz, Ben, Jr. Kranz, Hunter Confair, Reyna Yardley, Ryder Yardley, Hailey Kranz, Chelsea Kranz, Adelyn Kranz, Keira Kern. Also survived by one brother, Dennis Kranz of Rush City. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Geraldine Borgheiinck, Shirley Reichert and brother Gerard, a grandson, Jess, was killed in a car accident in 1992; and son-in-laws Jim and Ray.
