Doug P. Wimmer

Douglas ""Doug"" Wimmer, age 67, of New Brighton died at his home on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, May 19, 2014, at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield. Burial will be in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Litchfield. Douglas Patrick Wimmer, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Hughes) Wimmer, was born on July 2, 1946, in Litchfield, Minnesota. He grew up in Litchfield and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1964. He continued his education at St. Cloud State University and working very hard to put himself through school, graduated with a Bachelors degree in 1970. Doug worked road construction while attending college and for a few years after. In the late 1970's, he and his brother Jerry started selling produce in the Twin Cities until Doug retired in December of 2013. Doug has been united to Barbara Dodge for the past 37 years and together they made their home in New Brighton. Doug enjoyed sports, especially football, going for drives, spending time at Grove Lake, 50's music, hamburgers, and ice cream. Doug loved spending time with his family and friends. He thoroughly enjoyed people and could spark up a conversation with anyone. He is survived by his partner in life Barbara Dodge of New Brighton, daughter Shauna Kaylene Wimmer (Eduardo) Valdez of Delano; brothers, Kevin (Darlene) Wimmer of Cedar Rapids, IA, Brendan (Patricia Sullivan) Wimmer of Bloomington, Jerry (Catherine) Wimmer of Little Canada; sisters, Sharon (Bob) Polingo of Litchfield, Shala (Dale) Schuft of Hutchinson, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eugene and Austin, and nephews, Tony Wimmer and Dennis Polingo.
