Dorothy Pennertz, age 99, of Litchfield, MN, died on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the Bethany Assisted Living in Litchfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the St. Gertrude's Catholic Church in Forest City. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 PM on Friday, February 5 at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield with a parish prayer service at 7:00PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Forest City Cemetery. Dorothy Clarice Marie Pennertz, the daughter of Charles and Gertrude (Miller) Gilman, was born on January 13, 1917 in Forest City, MN. Dorothy grew up in the Forest City area and attended country school there. She graduated from Litchfield High School in 1934 and continued her education, graduating from Teacher Training in Litchfield a year later. Dorothy was a teacher for 5 years in country schools near Forest City and also during WWII. She was united in marriage to Howard Pennertz on September 17, 1940 in Litchfield, MN. They lived in Minneapolis for several years until they purchased their farm near Forest City in 1957. She enjoyed being a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker, and farm wife. She moved to Litchfield after Howard's death in 1998. Dorothy was an active member of St. Gertrude's Catholic Church, the Forest City Women's Club, Farm Bureau and the Rural Teachers Association. She enjoyed reading and making quilts for her grandchildren. She was an avid baseball fan and loved to cheer for her husband and children in their games. She is survived by her children, Esther (Robert) Dollerschell of Maplewood, Eileen Bentzen of Iron River, WI, Howard (Pat) Pennertz of Litchfield, Helen (David) Kruger of Litchfield, Marian Pennertz of Litchfield, Gordon (Julie) Pennertz of Litchfield, Marlys (Mark) Blumhardt of Rapid City, SD, Douglas (Shelley) Pennertz of Grand Rapids, and Carolyn (Roger) Hallberg of Valders, WI; son-in-law, Craige Farwick of Buffalo; 30 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Gertrude; husband Howard; daughter Eloise Farwick; and 5 siblings. Previous Events
