Dorothy Ann Hierlmaier

Dorothy Hierlmaier, 84 of Watkins, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Hilltop Care Center in Watkins. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins. Rev. John Brunner will officiate. Music will be by Mary Streit and the church Choir. Casket bearers will be Aaron Salzl, Nathan Salzl, Sam Hierlmaier, Abraham Hierlmaier, Daniel Ruprecht and Peter Schmitt. Interment will be in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday and 8 to 10 am on Thursday at the Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins. Watkins Senior Citizens will pray a rosary at 4 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home followed by parish prayers at 4:30 pm. Dorothy was born to Benjamin and Margaret (Neu) Bruemmer on December 11, 1926 at St. Cloud. She was united in marriage to Joseph Hierlmaier on June 4, 1946 in a double wedding with her sister and Joseph's brother, Leona and Ambrose Hierlmaier at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Forest City. They farmed at Watkins and Dorothy was employed at Fingerhut for 2 years and as a cook at the Corner Bar in Eden Valley for 5 years. She was also involved in the operation of the dairy herd. Dorothy was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins and was a member of the Council of Catholic Women and the Catholic Aid Assn. She was also a member of the Watkins Senior Citizens. Her hobbies included gardening and flowers, cooking and canning, and embroidering. She enjoyed reading, crafts and playing bingo. Dorothy is survived by her children and their spouses, Gerald Hierlmaier of Sebeka, Richard and Carol Hierlmaier of Ellendale, Betty and Marc Salzl of Minnetonka, Linda and Jim Typer of Buena Vista, CO, Julie and Dan Ruprecht of Eden Valley; 12 grandchildren; sister, Delores Schmitt of St. Martin. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph in 2001; sisters, Leona Hierlmaier, Rosemary Holland, Ludvina Rohrbeck and Joyce Moser.
