Dorothy Myrtiss Fortun

Dorothy M. Fortun, age 90, of Litchfield died on Sunday, September 4, 2011 at Ecumen of Litchfield. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at the Zion Lutheran Church with Pastors Harvey Nelson and Christian Muellerleile officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield. Dorothy Myrtiss Fortun, the daughter of Thor and Brita (Jertson) Teigen, was born on March 4, 1921 in Lanesboro, MN. She grew up and received her education in Lanesboro, graduating from Lanesboro High School in 1938. On August 6, 1939, she was united in marriage to Harlan Wayne Fortun at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They first made their home in Rochester, MN before moving to Fergus Falls and then Detroit Lakes. During WWII she lived in LaJolla, CA. They moved back to Minnesota and lived in St. Paul and Plainview before settling in Litchfield in 1948. Dorothy served as a Red Cross Volunteer and 4-H Leader. She was a very active member of Zion Lutheran Church where she served as; Sunday School Teacher, Funeral Serving Group and on the Mission Sewing group. She was a member of Circle, a Bible study group and Voice of Zion. She enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid gardener. She especially loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her children; Barb (and John) Casey of Norwalk, Iowa, Carol (and Del) Dammann of Litchfield, Merdice (and Donald) Rasmussen of St. Louis Park, Wayne (and Terry) Fortun of Hutchinson, Cheryl (and John) Gabrielson of Litchfield and Keith (and Cindy) Fortun of Litchfield. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harlan, daughter, Annette, and eight brothers and sisters. Memorials to Zion Lutheran Church are preferred.
