Doris M. Hawes, age 92, of Litchfield, died on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at her home in rural Litchfield, MN. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Ellsworth Cemetery. Doris Mae Hawes was born on June 15, 1924 at her parents home in Ellsworth Township in Meeker County, MN. She was the second of three children born to Carl and Hulda (Quist) Pearson. She had an older brother Marvin and a younger sister Donna. Doris was baptized at her parents home on October 12, 1924 by Pastor Searstrand of Beckville. She was confirmed at First Lutheran Church by Pastor Frazen in the class of 1938. She started school at District 32. Doris's parents moved to Litchfield in 1936 and she continued her education at Litchfield High School graduating in 1941. She did babysitting and worked at the Litchfield Woolen Mills. On January 6, 1944 she married Glenn (Bud) Hawes Jr. This marriage was blessed with two children Vicky Rae and Susan. They were married for 49 years when Bud passed away in 1993. Doris and Bud farmed in Darwin Township. They milked cows and farmed the land. Doris and Bud enjoyed farming. They hosted foreign exchange students at their farm and acted as surrogate parents to many nephews and special friend Harold Mackedanz. After Bud passed away, Doris stayed on the farm that she loved. She enjoyed tending her yard, her birds and wild life. She liked to read and enjoyed watching crime shows on television and her favorite program was 'Big Bang'. Doris was a life long member of the St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Ellsworth and the Ladies Aid. She is survived by her daughters Vicky Yahnke (Charles) of Le Sueur and Susan Johnson Overline (Alan) of Litchfield; and grandchildren Richard Johnson (Alyssa) of Shakopee, Bobby Johnson of Winthrop, Wade Yahnke (Airelle) of Henderson and Paige Yahnke of Minneapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her sister and brother. She is mourned by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.Previous Events
