Doris Cordes

Doris B. Cordes, age 82, of Litchfield, formerly of Grove City, MN, passed away on Friday, July 16, 2010, at the Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield, MN. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Monday, July 19, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Grove City, MN with Pastor Peter Lee officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 PM on Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Grove City and will continue one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in the First Baptist Cemetery, Grove City, MN. Doris Bessie Cordes was born on August 27, 1927 to Johnnie and Bessie (Gilson) Matteson in Vernon Center, MN. She received her education at Lake Crystal High School. She was united in marriage to August J. Cordes in Beauford, MN on September 5, 1947. Together they moved to rural Amboy, MN where they farmed. They later moved to Rosendale in 1959. Following the death of August she moved into Grove City and later moved to Litchfield. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grove City where she was active as a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the Rosendale birthday club. She enjoyed sewing, reading, baking (especially sugar and spice cookies), doing word searches, bird watching and watching Wheel of Fortune. Doris is survived by her children Ken (and Julie) Cordes of Atwater, MN, Brian (and Jeannette) Cordes of Litchfield, MN, Dawn (and Gordy) Seiffert of Litchfield, MN and Rebecca (and Craig) Weseman of Grove City, MN; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and a brother Harold (and Mary) Matteson of Brownsfield, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband August; siblings Lloyd, Dorothy and Ruth; grandchildren Stephen and Shannon and 2 great grandchildren Anna and Samuel.
