Donald ""Grandpa Don"" Henry Rotert

Donald H. Rotert, age 88, of Litchfield died peacefully at his home in Litchfield on Tuesday, November 18, 2014. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 24, 2014 at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield. Visitation will be on Sunday, November 23rd from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Rosary and Parish Prayer service at 7:30, at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Donald Henry Rotert, the son of Henry and Argina (Puetz) Rotert, was born on November 23, 1925, in Salem, SD. He grew up in Salem and received his education there. On May 4, 1943, he was united in marriage to Naomi Simons in Lake City, Iowa. They lived in Lake City until they moved to St. James in 1957. Donald worked for Tony Downs until they moved to Litchfield in 1968. He worked for Langemo Farms until he retired. After he retired he worked as the care taker at Pamida and the rest of the complex and was affectionately known as ""Grandpa Don"". He was a member of the Church of St. Philip. Don enjoyed reading westerns, listening to classical country music and was a ""Walmart Walker"". He loved his family and spending time with them was very important. He is survived by his children, Donald (and Patty) Rotert, Jr. of St. James, John (and Geri) Rotert of Farmington, Lexie (and Dennis) Kuhnau of Litchfield, LaMont (and Joyce) Rotert of Ecuador, Monica (and Roger) Grannis of Mankato, Kevin (and Jenny) Rotert of Litchfield, Kimberly Rotert of Litchfield, Kurtis (and Cindy) Rotert of St. Cloud, and Shane Rotert of St. Cloud; 25 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Lorelei Rotert of Grand Rapids, and brothers, Tony (and Marty) Rotert of Pocahontas, Iowa, John Rotert of Lake City Iowa, Edwin (Loretta) Rotert of Iowa and Louis (and Ruth) Rotert of Galena, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Naomi, son, Kyle Rotert; two grandchildren, one brother and one sister.
