Donald G. Nordlie, age 94, of Litchfield died on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the Dassel Lakeside Community Home. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, March 5, 2018 at the Augustana Memorial Chapel in Litchfield. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
Donald Gerhard Nordlie, the son of Olaf and Esther (Monson) Nordlie, was born on November 11, 1923 in New London, MN. He grew up in Litchfield and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served three years during WWII. He participated in the invasions of Kwajelien, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. After his service he returned to Minnesota. On June 22, 1947, he was married to Wanda Thoen at the First Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Don spent his entire working years in banking in Litchfield, Albert Lea, New Prague and Cottage Grove. He started out as a teller and retired as the President of the bank. They enjoyed living between Green Valley, AZ and Litchfield during his retirement years. He enjoyed golfing and woodworking. Don was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the VFW.
He is survived by his wife Wanda of Litchfield, son Brian Nordlie (friend Jodi) of Stewart; granddaughter Shawn (Matt) Harrington; great grandchildren Jacob William and Drew Anderson; niece Claire Anne Thoen and many other loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Dan Nordlie
