Donald ""Bud"" Laverne Miller

January 1, 1929 — July 28, 2015

Donald (Bud) Miller, 85, of Litchfield, peacefully passed away, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, July 28, at Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home, as well as 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 31, at First Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 31, at First Lutheran Church in Litchfield, followed by a luncheon. Interment will take place at a later time at Beckville Lutheran Church cemetery. Donald (Bud) Luverne Miller was born August 31, 1929 in Cokato. He was the son of Ernest and Frances (Swanson) Miller. He spent his childhood on Oakwood farm south of Litchfield, attended Litchfield High School, and later married his high school sweetheart, Yvonne Carlson, on September 19, 1949. Together they lived and farmed in rural Litchfield, enjoyed 49 years of marriage, had 5 children, and many grandchildren. In addition to Bud's farming operations, he worked in metal fabrication with Custom Products for 30 years, retiring in 1994. He and his family attended Beckville Lutheran Church where he also served on the church board and building committee. After the passing of Yvonne in 1999, Bud found love again with Darlene (Elam), and they were joined in marriage on October 21, 2000. They resided in Litchfield and enjoyed traveling, playing card games, and visiting with family & friends. Bud found great enjoyment in life, often whistling a familiar or favorite tune. He enjoyed the fellowship of people, social events, fishing, hunting, golfing, and playing cards. Can you say ""Cribbage Anyone?"" Bud had a zest for life, as witnessed by his family and friends. Bud's contagious personality always left you feeling loved, welcomed, and laughing due to his antics of one-liners and zingers during a round of cards. He is now whistling his way in heaven, having been dealt a wonderful ""hand"" in life. If you would like to honor Bud, make an effort to whistle a tune, eat some pistachios, or cast a line. Bud is survived by his wife, Darlene; brother John (Linda) Miller; brother in-law David (Mary Lou) Carlson; five children: Shelley (Peter) Legus, Steve (Sophie) Miller, Jim (Sue) Miller, Brad (Cyndi) Miller, and Mike (Edgar Arriaga) Miller; nine grandchildren: Dan (Holly) O'Shea, Jeremy (Lauri) Miller, Jared (Julia) Miller, Jordan (Pari) Miller, Jason Tauer, Miranda Miller, Hannah Miller, Kara Miller, and Diana Miller; eight great grandchildren: Lillian Tobin, Ella O'Shea, Brendan O'Shea, Alexander Miller, Mikklye Miller, Elijah Miller, Gabriel Miller, and Ethan Miller; three stepchildren: Wayne (Susan) Elam, Ron (Nancy) Elam, and Kim (Will) Dolan; seven step grandchildren: Tim (Megan) Elam, Joseph Elam, Christina (Eddie) Cox, Nathan (Angie) Elam, Alissa (Luke) Piram, Whitney Dolan, and Billy Dolan; ten step great grandchildren: Lauren Elam, Gabriel Elam, Caden Cox, Kyler Cox, Jace Cox, Jeron Cox, Noah Elam, Kali Elam, Blake Piram, and Brynlee Piram, as well as many nieces and nephews.
