Donald Edward Brock

Donald Edward Brock, age 87, of Litchfield, passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Meeker Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, MN. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Ripley Cemetery on Friday 11:00 AM. Donald Brock, the son of Herbert and Edna (Capstick) Brock, was born on December 27, 1931 in Denver, CO. Don graduated from Patrick Henry High School in Minneapolis and earned his Associates Degree from the University of Minnesota. Don was united in marriage to Bernice Hafstad in Owatonna on October 11, 1953. He and Bernice, along with their two little boys Kevin and Gary, moved to Litchfield in 1959 where Don purchased a furniture business from Rueben Hagglund. Linda was born soon after and Greg three years later. Within a short time the furniture store expanded and Don asked his father Herb to move from Minneapolis to join him in business and several years later Don’s brother Stan. Together they had many successful years building the business that had become Brock Home Furnishing. Don sold the store and retired in 1992. A devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church, Don served as council president and on several committees. He worked tirelessly to make the annual turkey dinner a success and was involved with bringing the stained glass window to the sanctuary. Don was also active in the community serving on the planning commission and as president of the Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Masons, Shriners, Jaycees, and Kiwanis. Don enjoyed model railroads, playing Bridge, Dominoes, Fast Track, and trading quarters with his long-time poker club. Don and Bernice liked to travel and made many trips to visit their children in Australia and Germany. In his retirement, Don was known as “Grandpa Don” to many, as he volunteered with the Grandparent Program at Lake Ripley Elementary. Don is survived by his children, Kevin (Ursula) Brock of Mainz, Germany; Gary (Lynn) Brock of Underwood, MN; Linda (Michael) Lyons of Wellington, NSW, Australia; and Greg (Missy) Brock of Litchfield. He is survived by his grandchildren: Nicholas, Melissa, Sam (Radika), Julia (Mike), Rachel (Nick), Heidi (Zach), Nathan, Nicholas (Camille), Alexandria, Natalie, Sarah, Kirsten, Anna; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and his brother Stan (Jane) Brock of New Market, Tennessee. Don was preceded in death by his wife Bernice, parents Herbert and Edna, and his brother Stephen Brock.
