DeWayne J. Holtz

DeWayne J. Holtz, age 81, of Litchfield, MN, died on December 27, 2013, at the Ecumen Emmanuel Home in Litchfield. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 3, 2014, at the Litchfield Christian Church. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Thursday at the Litchfield Christian Church and will continue until 2:00 PM on Friday. Interment will be held in Lake Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield, MN. DeWayne Junior Holtz, the son of Fred and Clara (Schultz) Holtz, was born in Litchfield, MN on August 23, 1932. He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1950 and was united in marriage to Donna Jean Johnson on August 27, 1950 in Glencoe, MN. DeWayne worked with Johnson Brothers Corporation for 45 years as an operating engineer, working on large construction projects such as the Hennepin Avenue Bridge in Minneapolis. This work took DeWayne and Donna Jean all over the country, from North Dakota down to Texas and Louisiana. After retiring in 1995, DeWayne could often be found in his workshop, building everything from bookshelves to beds for his grandchildren. This hobby came in handy for Litchfield Christian Church, where DeWayne was a member. He completed many projects for the church, including a music library. As a former star and lifelong fan of the Litchfield Dragon Basketball team, DeWayne could always be found in the bleachers on a game night. By Saturday morning, like every morning, he'd be back on the golf course, where he hit two holes-in-one. His sense of humor rarely left passersby untouched – DeWayne lived to make people laugh; he was always armed with a joke, accompanied by his own contagious, booming laughter. DeWayne is survived by his wife Donna Jean Holtz of Litchfield, MN; children, Georgene Fisher of Brooklyn Park, MN, Mike (and Ali) Holtz of O'Fallon, MO, Jeff (and Julie) Holtz of rural Dassel, MN, Char (and Larry) Windus of Bend, OR, Jodie Holtz of Grove City, MN and Dan (and Laurie) Holtz of Willmar, MN; 14 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and sisters, Marlene Komrosky of San Jose, CA and Patty (and Bob) Magnuson of Manassas, VA.
