David R. Blunt, age 86, of Litchfield died peacefully at his home on Friday, March 27, 2015. A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Military Honors provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. David Reuben Blunt, the son of Rueben and Hulda (Hoffman) Blunt was born on December 20, 1928, at the Litchfield Hospital. He attended grade school in District 73 and graduated from Litchfield High School. David joined the National Guard in 1949 and on January 16, 1951 his unit was active and sent to Camp Rucker, Alabama. He then went to school in Fort Benning, Georgia for instruction in light and heavy weapons before being sent to Korea. He joined a combat company and was sent to the front. Two weeks in combat he was wounded and sent to Japan to recover. After his recovery he was sent back to Korea to help haul supplies to the front. He received the Purple Heart for his service. After David was discharged he returned home to farm with his parents on the family farm. On June 13, 1955, he was united in marriage to Carol Ann Johnson at the First Presbyterian Church in Litchfield. The couple made their home on the family farm and David continued to farm. David raised Corriedale sheep, Shorthorn cattle, and Morgan horses. He was very fond of his horses and he later purchased a team that he used for some of the farming.
David and Carol were blessed with 2 children, David Ralston Blunt and Mary Helen Blunt. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Litchfield serving as Superintendent of the Sunday School, trustee and elder. David enjoyed taking care of his animals and pets. He also enjoyed reading, photography, riding horse, and spending time with his family. David is survived by his wife Carol of Litchfield; children, David Blunt Jr. (and fiancée Joyce Schreiner) of Litchfield, Mary (and Roger) Crosbie of Litchfield; grandchildren, Justin (and Amy) Blunt of Kingston, Travis Crosbie of Sauk Centre, Alicia (and Kris) Toutges of Litchfield, Kelly Crosbie of Savage, Erin Riebe of Litchfield, CJ Crosbie, Stephanie Crosbie, Nathan Crosbie, Mariah Crosbie and Katie Crosbie; great grandchildren, Alexis and Jonathan Blunt, Jase Toutges, and Karsyn Crosbie. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother John Blunt.Previous Events
