Darrel Duane Peterson

Darrel D. Peterson, age 89, of Litchfield died peacefully at his home in Litchfield on Tuesday, November 18, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 24, 2014 at the Litchfield United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Sunday at the church. Interment will take place in the Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson at a later date. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Darrel Duane Peterson was born June 28, 1925 in Spooner, Wisconsin. He was the son of Carl and Lettie Peterson. He was baptized as an infant at the Lutheran church in Spooner, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, Minnesota. He received his education in the Hutchinson area, and was a graduate of Hutchinson High School, class of 1943. Darrel farmed with his father and drove truck for a number of years. After enlisting in the National Guard, his company was activated on January 16, 1951. Darrel served as a member of the 682nd Engineer Combat Battalion at Camp Rucker, Alabama. After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Army, he attended barber college. On November 4, 1950 Darrel was united in marriage to Audrey Fratzke at Northside Baptist Church in Hutchinson. Their marriage was blessed with three children, and Darrel and Audrey shared 64 years together. Darrel was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Hutchinson for many years. In 2002 he joined the Litchfield United Methodist Church in Litchfield, MN. Darrel was a hugger. He liked to tease, and he had a ready smile and a great sense of humor. He will be dearly missed. The family would like to express their gratitude to the caretakers provided by Ecumen Home Care and Hospice at the end of Darrel's life. Darrel is survived by his wfe, Audrey Peterson; children Gene (Butch) Peterson, Rob Peterson, Jackie Backen and her husband, Terry; grandchildren Caitlin Backen and Carl Backen; sister, Shirley Kisling and her husband, Charles; nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. Darrel is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Lettie Peterson.
