Dale David Barto

Dale Barto, age 68, of Litchfield, died on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the University of Minnesota Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 11:00 AM at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Lutter officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Dale David Barto, the son of David and Milgard (Seefeldt) Barto, was born on December 30, 1944, in Hutchinson, Minnesota. He grew up near Litchfield and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1962. He continued his education at the University of Minnesota. In 1973 he moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, returning to the family farm near Darwin in 1976. Dale was united in marriage to Lisa Steadland in Cross Lake, Minnesota on June 27, 1981. He engaged in farming from 1976 until 1996. In 1996 they made their home in Litchfield. Dale was a professional musician and worked for HTI in process engineering. He was a very active member of First Lutheran Church. Dale enjoyed being active in the community through his children's activities and anything that surrounded him with music. He was active in Boy Scouts as a troop leader, belonged to MENSA, and the Meeker County Historical Society. One of Dale's passions was genealogy, he started researching his family tree in 1998 and as of 2012, had over 13, 000 people on the tree. Dale is survived by his wife, Lisa Barto of Litchfield; children, Megan Barto McKenny (and Christopher) of Lynnwood, Washington, David (and Erin) Barto of Bloomington, MN, Matthew Barto (and Jessica Bigwood) of St. Cloud, MN and Laura (and Brent) Holmquist of Dassel, MN; his grandchildren, John, Cody, Christian, Trista, Amber, Sophia and Audrey; and great grandchild, Leah. He is also survived by his sisters, Linnea Klassen of Hutchinson, MN and Rhonda (and Jeff) Peterson of Dassel, MN besides other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Milgard Barto.
