Chester ""Chet"" L. Olsen, age 89, of Alexandria, formerly of Litchfield, died on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at the Ecumen Bethany Community in Alexandria. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield with military honors provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Chester LuVerne Olsen, the son of Andrew and Minnie (Christensen) Olsen was born on January 9, 1925 in Starbuck, MN. He grew up in Starbuck and graduated from Starbuck High School in 1942. Chet served in the U.S. Marine Corp. during WWII from 1942 to 1946. On July 5, 1946, he was united in marriage to Lenora Berg at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Starbuck where they were both confirmed. He worked as a Chef at the Willmar Hotel until they moved to Litchfield in 1949 and started Chet's Automotive Machine Service. They ran the business for 41 years. They were very active in the community. Chet served as the VFW Commander and Building Chairman for V.F.W. Post 2818. He was an active member at Zion Lutheran Church where he held different offices. He was a member of the Litchfield City Council. He retired in 1991 and began wintering in Arizona. In December of 2010, they moved to Bethel Manor in Alexandria. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, hunting, camping and softball. Chet made the board game, Fast Track, as a pass time and gained many friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Melodee Olsen (and Don Weicht) of Elk River, Lori (and Richard) Zastrow of Alexandria; grandchildren, Angie (and Clint), Rachael (and Kelly), Nicole, Crystal, Amber (and Jodi); seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by daughter-in-laws, Jennifer Olsen of St. Cloud, Chris Cummins (and Mark) and their family of Woodbury; sisters, Harriet Feutchenberger of Willmar and Doreen (and Marvin) Amon of Mesa, AZ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lenora, sons, Richard, Ronald and Keith; parents, and sister Alva Nichols. Previous Events
