C. Alvin Johnson, age 93, of Litchfield, died on Sunday May 11, 2014, at the Meeker Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the First Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, at the First Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery. C. Alvin Johnson, the son of Alfred and Elosina Johnson, was born on September 19, 1920, in Hallock, MN. He attended school near Hallock until the 3rd grade when his family moved to Farmington. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1939. He continued his education at Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. On June 24, 1950, he was united in marriage to Gladys Ratzlaff in Farmington. In 1952, they moved from Farmington to Breckenridge where they lived until the fall of 1953. They then moved to Litchfield where he resided for the rest of his days. C. Alvin farmed his entire working life and sold seed for DeKalb for 25 years. He was an active member of the First Lutheran Church and was on the church council and many committees. He served on the School Board, Consumers Coop Board and as a County Commissioner. He enjoyed traveling to Texas for the winters after retiring. He also enjoyed coffee with ""the boys"" at Cenex, playing cards, riding his 4-wheeler, gardening, mowing the lawn , working with his apple and pear trees, telling stories and fishing. He was an avid Twins fan but, especially enjoyed his grandchildren's sporting events. He loved spending time with his family often playing ball on a Sunday afternoon.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gladys Johnson of Litchfield; children, Dennis (and Diane) Johnson of Litchfield, Donna (and Chuck) Herdegen of Glencoe, David (and Tracy) Johnson of Litchfield; grandchildren, Paul (and Traci) Johnson, Josh Johnson, Lucas Johnson, Ben Kulberg (and friend Ume Phengpane), Kim Mlodzik, Mike Herdegen, Andy Herdegen, Kevin (and Amy) Herdegen, Kerry (and fiancée Darlene) Herdegen, Jeremiah Johnson, Jacklyn Johnson; great grandchildren, Riley Johnson, Ella Mlodzik, Isabel Johnson, Alaina Herdegen and Norah Herdegen. He is also survived by his brother Einer Johnson of Minneapolis and sister, Vivian Bartel of Omaha. He was preceded in death by his parents, great grandson Zachary Mlodzik, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
