Boynton Peters

Boynton J. Peters, age 89, of Litchfield, died on Friday, January 30, 2009 at the Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 6, 2009, at 1:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield with Pastor Harvey Nelson and Minister Signe Gray officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 PM on Thursday at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at church. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Interment will be held in the Forest City Cemetery. Boynton Jerome Peters was born on May 5, 1919 to William and Minnie (Larson) Peters in Litchfield, Minnesota. He grew up in Litchfield, graduating from Litchfield High School in 1936. He continued his education and graduated from Dunwoody Institute in 1939. On January 24, 1942, he was united in marriage to Marion Mortenson in Litchfield, MN. Boynton entered the Army in November of 1942, where he served in the 608th Army Ordinance Battalion. He was discharged on December 3, 1945. He lived all his life on the family farm near Forest City, MN, where he was a dairy, beef and crop farmer. Boynton was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Admiral Benson V.F.W. Post #2818 and was a Forest City War Memorial Park board member for many years. He enjoyed square dancing, horses, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and reading western and history books. Boynton is survived by his wife Marion; children William E. (and Nancy) Peters of Sheldon, IA, Stephen J. (and Vicki) Peters of Litchfield, MN, Sharon L. (and Terry) Kivioja of Coon Rapids, MN, Susan M. (and Don) Christofferson of Kimball, MN and Rebecca J. (and Jeff) Thompson of Paynesville, MN; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a brother Archie (and Clarice) Peters of Litchfield, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Minnie; and a sister Melba Stevens. BLESSED BE HIS MEMORY
