Bernice M. Holtz

Bernice M. Holtz, age 94, of Litchfield, MN, died on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Ecumen Emmanuel Home in Litchfield, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, MN with visitation one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in Lake Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield, MN. Memorials are preferred to the Emmanuel Home Family Council. Bernice Marjorie Holtz, the daughter of Alexander and Rose (Danielson) Kunze, was born on July 4, 1918 in Great Falls, Montana. She was united in marriage to Robert Holtz in Forest City, MN on October 15, 1938. They lived in Litchfield and moved to Richmond, California where her husband Robert took a job at the Kaiser Ship Yard. They moved back to Litchfield in 1945. Bernice was employed at the Red Castle and later at the Bethany Home, Augustana Home and Emmanuel Home. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was active in the Women's Circle and sewing group. Bernice had a fun sense of humor, and loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed watching sports, travelling, and playing cards and bingo. She is survived by her children, Darrell (and Pat) Holtz of Moses Lake, WA, Richard Holtz of Litchfield, MN, Karen (and David) Winters of Byron, MN and Mardell Starr of Milford, Iowa; 15 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren and son-in-law Don Dougherty of Litchfield, MN.
