Bernice Brock

Bernice Brock, age 81, of Litchfield, died on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at the Lakeview Ranch in Dassel, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 22, 2012 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Litchfield, MN. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 - 5:00 PM at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Ripley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Dementia Care Foundation at Lakeview Ranch. Bernice Brock, the daughter of Albert and Libbie (Miller) Hafstad, was born on June 9, 1931 in Owatonna, MN. She graduated from Owatonna High School in 1949 and continued her education at the Lutheran Deaconess Hospital in Minneapolis, MN where she graduated in 1952. She was united in marriage to Don in Owatonna on October 11, 1953. She worked as a registered nurse at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis and after moving to Litchfield in 1959, she worked as a surgical nurse at Meeker Memorial Hospital and later became Director of Nursing at Bethany and Emmanuel Nursing Homes. Bernice was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was president of WELCA, a Sunday School and a release time teacher. She tied quilts with the church Mission Sewing group and was active with the Stephen's Ministry. Bernice helped with community blood drives, was a volunteer nurse at the Meeker County Fair and was a member of the Mrs. JC's. She enjoyed travelling, watching birds, doing crossword puzzles, swimming, reading, and playing bridge. She enjoyed spending time on the golf course and at the cabin on Lake Koronis. She made the world's best ginger snap cookies and enjoyed leading while dancing. She is survived by her husband Don; children, Kevin (and Ursula) Brock of Germany, Gary (and Lynn) Brock of Moorhead, MN, Linda (and Michael) Lyons of Australia and Greg (and Melissa) Brock of Litchfield, MN; grandchildren, Rachel, Heidi, Nicholas, Alexandria, Natalie, Sarah, Kirsten, Anna, Julia (and Mike) Kramer, Sam, Melissa (and Joe) Patterson, and Nathan; brothers, Albert Hafstad of Owatonna, MN, Robert (and Lorraine) Hafstad of Crooks, SD; sister Beatrice (and Carl) Putman of Sparta, WI; sister-in-law Vera Hafstad of Owatonna, MN; and 6 great grandchildren.
