Bernard 'Jerry' J. Friel

Bernard 'Jerry' J. Friel, age 86, of Litchfield, MN, died on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield. A memorial service will be held at 9:00 AM on Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Lake Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Bernard 'Jerry' Jerome Friel, the son of Daniel and Alice (Green) Friel, was born October 28, 1927 in St. Paul, MN. He received his education in St. Paul and entered the United States Navy in 1944. He was united in marriage to Joanne Steele on March 12, 1956 in St. Paul, MN. Together they lived in North Hollywood, CA from 1957 to 1966, Stillwater, MN from 1966 - 1974, St. Paul, MN from 1974 - 1978, and moved to the Litchfield area in 1978. Jerry was a jack-of-all trades and worked in many different fields during his life, but he retired after being a caretaker for the Lincoln Apartments in Litchfield. He was a car connoisseur and loved anything that was mechanical. Jerry truly enjoyed life and loved meeting people. He cherished the fact that his family lived close and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Jerry is survived by his children, Tom (Dannel) Friel of Lino Lakes, MN, Terry Friel of Litchfield, MN, Tracy (Richard) Nistler of Litchfield, MN, and Tim Friel of Litchfield, MN; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; brother Mike; and sisters Mary Alice and Carol.
