Barry Deviney

Barry D. Deviney, age 54, of Litchfield, MN, died on Friday, August 28, 2009 at his home in Litchfield, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at the Lighthouse Church in Litchfield with Pastor Chris Castilleja and Pastor Mike Finch officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield and will continue one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at church. Interment will be in Lake Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield, MN. A memorial service will be held at Mt. Moriah Methodist Church in Casar, North Carolina. Barry Dexter Deviney the son of Frank Haywood and Margie (Cook) Deviney, was born on October 7, 1954 in Shelby, North Carolina. He received his education in Lawndale, N.C. where he graduated from the Burns High School in 1972. At age 19 Barry became a land surveyor, a profession that he enjoyed his entire life. He was united in marriage to JoAnn Olson in Tulsa, OK on August 27, 1983. Throughout his life, Barry lived in Casar, NC from 1954 to 1956, West Palm Beach, FL from 1956—1964, Casar, NC from 1964—1982, Tulsa, OK from 1982—1984, Fort Worth Texas from 1984–2002 and moved to Litchfield, MN in 2002. In 1982, he attended the Rhema Bible Training Center in Broken Arrow, OK and became an ordained minister in 1984. Barry was an active member of the Lighthouse church where he was the secretary, treasurer, an elder and taught adult Sunday school. While living in Fort Worth, Texas, he was active in the Republican Party for several years and head of the construction crews of the ATAC (Air Transportation Arm of Christ) when he lived in Fort Worth. He was also a Scoutmaster, a Royal Rangers Commander, a volunteer fireman and an EMT. Barry is survived by his wife JoAnn Deviney of Litchfield, MN; children Tim (and Amanda) Olson of Weatherford, TX, Elizabeth Deviney of New Brighton, MN and Patrick Deviney of Litchfield, MN; father Frank Haywood Deviney and a sister Jan Deviney of Casar, NC. He is preceded in death by his mother Margie; brother Greg Deviney; father-in-law Clinton Olson and mother-in-law Iona Olson.
