Arthur H. Stoltenow

Arthur H Stoltenow, 95, of Litchfield, MN, passed on to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday July 11, 2014 at the St. Cloud Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Litchfield, MN with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, MN. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Art was born November 16, 1918 at Great Bend, ND to John and Lena (Gehler) Stoltenow. He received his formal schooling at Brandenberg Township School rural Great Bend. On June 5, 1942, he married Inez Ploium in Leesville, LA. Inez taught school in a rural school near the John & Lena Stoltenow farm. Art was serving in the military at the time of their marriage. Art was then deployed to England in preparation for the D-day invasion of Europe during WWII. Art was part of the landing on Omaha Beach and later participated in the Battle of the Bulge in the European theatre of WWII. He earned five bronze stars for major battles in the defeat of Germany. Art was proud of his service in the military as part of the 33rd Armored Regiment. After the war, Art & Inez lived in Oakes, ND where Art worked as a farm machinery sales representative for International Harvester and New Idea farm machinery. They later moved to Litchfield, Minnesota. He continued to work as field manager for the New Idea farm machinery company. Art enjoyed playing golf, hunting, and playing cards with friends and relatives. He was also a founding member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he remained active throughout his life in Litchfield. He is survived by his wife, Inez, of 72 years; his 2 daughters Sheila (Ron) Willardsen of Sartell, MN and Barbara (Larry) Lundberg of Chicago City, MN and 5 grandchildren Darin (Katy) Willardsen, Jennifer Hillstrom, Denise (Michael) Parks, Erik (Stephanie) Lundberg, and Heather (Nick) Argenziano.
