Arthur Gustav Olson was born on May 10, 1926 to Arthur and Josephine (Pederson) Olson in Acton Township. He graduated from Litchfield High school in 1944. On June 20, 1948, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Larson at Arndahl Lutheran Church. Arthur was a true farmer, who farmed dairy cattle, and hogs for many years. He was an incredibly hard worker all of his life. Anything worth doing was worth doing well. Art was always willing to help anyone out, even when he may have had little to give himself. Art was also full of wisdom with an impeccable memory and mind that was sharp as a tack, right up until the very end. Despite gradually losing his eyesight and eventually becoming totally blind, Art kept his strong faith and positive outlook on life, often saying “it could always be worse.” He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and was active on the Litchfield School Board for 12 years. After moving to Lakeside Generations, he found a new appreciation for weekly bingo and dice games, and treasured the friendships with staff. He enjoyed keeping up on current events, following politics, listening to KLFD, playing cards, deer hunting, phone calls to stay in touch with friends and family and Sunday dinners. Spending time with his family was his biggest joy.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Bruce) Dicke of Litchfield, daughter-in-law, Jane Olson of Litchfield; grandchildren, Alisa (Eric) Johnson, Sara Olson, Rebecca Olson-Ball (Kyle), Mike Olson and Tammy (Dan) Minton, great grandchildren, Matthew (Emily) Johnson, Alayna (Masen) Oltmanns, Ella Johnson, Sophie Minton, Addison Minton, Orion Ball, Fitz Ball and Odin Flategraff; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Josephine; wife Marilyn; son Gary; great grandson Hendrix and his siblings Averna, Nona and Orlan.
Interment will be at Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield, Minnesota at a later date.
