Arnold George Birr

Arnold “Arnie” G. Birr, age 66, of Howard Lake died on Sunday, April 1, 2018, at his home. Family and friend may gather at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM at the Funeral home on Friday. Interment will be at a later date in the Ripley Cemetery. Arnold George Birr, the son of Alvin and Anabelle (Failes) Birr, was born on October 4, 1951 in Minneapolis. He grew up in Hutchinson and then moved to the Darwin area. He graduated from Litchfield High School. He was married to June Ruby in 1971 and they were blessed with three wonderful sons: Shanon, Toby, and Brady. Following high school he began working as a truck driver. Later he worked as a welder for Bobcat, Landscape Structures and Sterner Lighting Systems. Arnie was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and in his younger years rode horse. Arnie is survived by his sons Shanon (Tammy) Birr of Litchfield, Toby Birr of Dassel, Brady (Catherine) Birr of Litchfield; grandchildren Gavin, Logan and Jacob Birr; brothers Allen “Butch” Birr of Elk River, Aaron (and Debbie) Birr of Eden Valley; nieces Melissa (and Josh) Gilbertson, Marsha (and Brad) Hageman; nephews Andy Birr and Travis Birr; former wife June Birr. He is also survived by several grand nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
