Arlo Voigt

Arlo E. Voigt, age 82, of Litchfield, formerly of Grove City, died on December 29, 2008 at Emmanuel Home in Litchfield. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at First Lutheran Church, Litchfield, MN at 11:00 AM with Pastor David Sorensen officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Arndahl Lutheran Cemetery, Grove City. Arlo Eugene Voigt was born on October 9, 1926 in Fenton, Iowa the son of Arthur and Alvina (Fischer) Voigt. He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Faith in Fenton, Iowa. He grew up and received his education in Fenton. Arlo graduated from Fenton High School in 1944. After high school he worked for area farmers around Fenton to earn enough money to buy a farm. In March of 1950, he purchased a farm in Grove City, Minnesota. On October 27, 1951 he was united in marriage to Ardella Heining in Wadena, Minnesota. This union was blessed with four daughters and two sons. They made their home together on the farm in Grove City where they engaged in farming. Arlo farmed the land and had dairy cattle, hogs, laying hens and steers throughout the years. He retired from farming in the 1980’s and continued helping his son Richard farm until the 1990’s when he lost his eye sight. In retirement he enjoyed his draft horses, farming with his team on a 20 acre hobby farm. Arlo belonged to the White Mountain Range Riders of Arizona and enjoyed 17 years of trail rides with his quarter horse, Casey. Arlo belonged to the Willmar Eagles Aerie #2334 and the Meeker County Historical Society. He was a member of Arndahl Lutheran Church of Grove City and currently First Lutheran Church of Litchfield. Arlo enjoyed bowling, reading, snowmobiling, draft horses and horse back riding. He truly cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Arlo is survived by his wife Ardella, 3 daughters, Laurie (Alan) Boll, Janelle (Gene) Hoekstra and Venita McCormick all of Litchfield, 2 sons, Charles Voigt of South Haven and Richard (Lyn) Voigt of Grove City. He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren, Joseph (Susan) Hoekstra, Robert (Melody) Boll, Edward (Megan) Hoekstra, Amy (Brady) Boe, Crystal (Edwin) Reyes, Martin (Sommer) Hoekstra, Douglas (Beth) Voigt, Brian (Rebecca) Boll, Michael Worden (fiancée Shannon Woods), Donald Worden, Matthew Worden, Patrick McCormick and Delton Voigt, 11 great grandchildren, Jordan Boll, Kayla, Ally and Ryan Boe, Heidi and Holly Hoekstra, Logan and Taylor Hoekstra and Maella, Belén and Maria Reyes, sisters-in-law, Evelyn Lundeen of Hutchinson and Lorraine Voigt of Fenton, Iowa. Arlo was preceded in death by his daughter, Heidi Voigt, parents, Arthur and Alvina Voigt, sister and brother-in law, Marjorie and Dale Weisbord, brothers and sisters-in-law, Derwood and Marlys Voigt and Dale and Jane Voigt.
