Arlene L. Ulstad

Arlene L. Ulstad, age 84, of Litchfield, died on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at the Regions Hospital in Saint Paul. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, July 8, 2016, at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 7th at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery. Arlene Lavonne Ulstad, the daughter of Adolph and Elma (Grams) Yochem, was born on June 22, 1932, in Walnut Grove, MN. She moved with her family to various towns growing up. She attended West Central School of Agriculture graduating in 1951. Following high school she moved to Appleton with her family and worked at the Federal Land Bank. On August 21, 1954, she was united in marriage to John Ulstad. They moved to Brookings, SD in 1954 so John could attend pharmacy college. They moved to Minneapolis in June of 1959. Arlene was an active home maker and involved mother of 3. They moved to their new home on Nine Mile Creek in 1961 and lived the typical suburban life. In 1975 they moved to a ten acre hobby farm north of Delano. This gave Arlene the opportunity to enjoy her love of gardening where she kept large flower and vegetable gardens. Twenty years later they moved to a home on Collinwood Lake. Arlene and John enjoyed fishing, camping and travelling. They travelled in U.S and Canada in their motor home. They visited several countries in Europe. They moved to Litchfield in 2000 and John died three years later. Arlene continued to travel and spend the winters in Arizona until 2012. She moved to Inver Grove Heights in January to an assisted living community. She also enjoyed genealogy, reading and fishing. She is survived by her children, Gary (and Cindy) Ulstad of Monticello, Karen (and Randy) Feld of Eagan; grandchildren Kelly (and Tom) Lyon, Derek Ulstad, John E. Ulstad and Maxwell Feld; great grandchildren Zachary and Penelope Lyon. She is also survived by her sister Marlys Mahoney of Appleton.
