Arleane Swanson

Arleane M. Swanson, age 98, of Litchfield, MN, died on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at the Arbor Lakes Senior Living in Maple Grove, MN. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 15, 2014 at the First Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be held on Tuesday at the Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Arleane Mabel Swanson, the daughter of Andrew and Minnie (Thompson) Varland, was born on May 17, 1916 in rural Cosmos, MN. She attended grade school in Cosmos and graduated from High School in Hector, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Cosmos, MN. Arleane worked as a manager at Fanny Farmer Candies in Minneapolis for many years and was united in marriage to Harry Swanson in Hutchinson, MN on May 16, 1959. When they moved to Litchfield, Arleane attended and graduated from cosmetology school in St. Cloud and owned and operated the Morningside Beauty Salon in Litchfield. Arleane was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Litchfield and was a prolific blood donor. She enjoyed travelling, playing bridge and volunteering at the Meeker Memorial Hospital and the Ecumen Gift Shop. She is survived by her son Glen (Sally) Klemp; four grandchildren, Scott (Amy) Klemp, Theresa (Gregory) Carpenter, Steven (Kay) Klemp and Courtney Klemp; four great-grandchildren Alexis Klemp, Robbie Carpenter, Danielle Carpenter and A.J. Klemp; and sister Mae Wertz. She is preceded in death by her husband Harry; and siblings Jesse Varland, Alma Hanson, Jasper Varland, Elmer Varland and Glen Varland.
