Ardis Lorraine Anderson

Ardis L Anderson, age 86 of Litchfield died on Friday, September 5, 2014 at the Ecumen Emmanuel Home of Litchfield. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 9th from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the church and will continue one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield. Ardis Lorraine Holmberg Boline Anderson was born May 27, 1928 in rural Grove City to Lawrence Holmberg and Ida (Nelson) Holmberg. She was baptized on September 2, 1928, at First Lutheran Church in Grove City and Confirmed on April 11, 1943. She grew up in rural Grove City and attended country school graduated from Grove City High School in 1946. She took one year teacher training in Litchfield and began her teaching career in a rural school near home. A few years later, she began teaching in Litchfield, but was asked to resign after Christmas when it was found she was engaged to be married, – that was Litchfield school policy at the time. She was married to John Boline in August of 1953. She returned to teaching at the rural schools. They built a new home in rural Watkins, MN where they farmed and Ardis taught near Forest City. They were involved in a serious car accident on their 2nd wedding anniversary and John spent much time in the hospital. On their 6th wedding anniversary, John passed away. Ardis then purchased a home in Litchfield. Lawrence and Ida moved in with her. She spent summers working in the Court House and she also worked part time at the Litchfield Golf Club. While working at the golf club she met Jerry Anderson. They were married in June of 1966. Shortly after marrying Jerry, she was asked to teach in the Litchfield school system in 6th grade where she finished her teaching career many years later. Ardis continued her education and finished her bachelors' degree from St. Cloud State University and her Masters' degree in 1970. She adopted Kathy – Jerry's daughter and shared her with the Holmberg and Boline families. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Litchfield and then Zion Lutheran. She was active in the community as a member of the Eagles and Eastern Star. Ardis and Jerry enjoyed camping together, many times leaving right after she finished her work at school on Friday. She also enjoyed playing bridge in several bridge clubs, reading books, teaching piano, and hosting events. Jerry passed away in 1990 after a courageous battle with cancer. Ardis is preceded in death by her husband John in 1959 and Jerry in 1990, a daughter JoAnne Kathryn, parents, aunts, uncles, brother Wesley, brothers and sisters-in-laws Arnold (Doris) Boline, Stanley (Harriet) Boline, Rudolph (Gloria) Boline, LeRoy (Betty) Boline, Gloria Holmberg, Al Westrup, nieces Lorene Bonine, Marcia Zinter, and Betty Jean Boline and many other family and friends. She is survived by daughter Kathy (Kelvin) Nelson of Council Bluffs, Iowa. Brothers Chester (Barbara) Holmberg of Litchfield and Allen Holmberg of Cokato, sister-in-laws Darlene Holmberg and Janice Westrup.
