Alvina Erickson

Alvina M. Erickson, age 71, of Grove City, MN, died on Thursday, August 27, 2009 in Grove City, MN. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Jean Smith officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City and will continue one hour prior to the services on Tuesday. Interment will be in First Lutheran Cemetery, Grove City, MN. Alvina Marie Erickson the daughter of William and Norva (Rodewald) Okeson was born on November 4, 1937 in Swede Grove Township, Meeker County, MN. She was baptized on December 12, 1937 and also confirmed on June 10, 1951 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grove City. She received her education in Grove City where she graduated from the Grove City High School in 1955. Alvina was united in marriage to Charles Erickson at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grove City on January 26, 1963. Throughout their lives they lived in Benson, Clara City, Spring Valley, Gaylord, Plainview, Buffalo Lake, Lakefield and Grove City. They owned and operated a grocery store in Buffalo Lake for 11 years. Wherever she lived, Alvina devoted herself to her family, her friends, and her Lord. She made many lifelong friendships in each community she lived and served. Alvina was very active in her local church, as well as serving the wider church for many years on the regional and national level. She served the community with volunteering for the Grove City Historical Society, Community Answers for Reaching the Elders (CARE), and many other activities. Her favorite pastimes included quilting, sewing, baking, and playing cards. Alvina carried on family traditions that she learned growing up such as baking Christmas cookies and hand stitching special quilts and blankets for each of her grandchildren. She loved spending time with her kids and grandkids. She will be especially remembered for her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior and the ways she served Him. Alvina is survived by her husband Charles of Grove City, MN; children Holly (and Doug) Miller of Sleepy Eye, MN; Ken (and Stephanie) Erickson of Blaine, MN and Steven (and MariGrace) Erickson of Maple Grove, MN; grandchildren Nathan Miller, Matthew Miller, Mariah Miller, Justin Erickson, Andrew Erickson, Alyssa Erickson, Ryan Erickson and Katelyn Erickson; sister Betty (and Jim) Rule of Spicer, MN, brother-in-law Don (and Darlene) Erickson of Breezy Point, MN, and sister-in-laws Darla Okeson of Grove City, MN and Carolyn Romsaas of Montevideo, MN. She is preceded in death by both of her parents, brother Willard Okeson, and a brother-in-law Warren Romsaas.
