Clarence E. Schlenner

Clarence E. Schlenner, age 85, of Litchfield, MN, died on Monday, April 30, 2012, at the Dassel Lakeside Health Care Center in Dassel, MN. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at First Lutheran Church in Litchfield, MN. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at church. Interment will be held at Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield, MN. Military honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Clarence Edwin Schlenner, the son of Edwin and Anna (Tebben) Schlenner, was born at home, on December 19, 1926, in Wood Lake Township, Minnesota. He was baptized on January 16, 1927 and confirmed on May 14, 1939, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wood Lake, MN. He graduated from Wood Lake High School in 1944. He was drafted into the Army in 1944, and served as a radio operator, specializing in morse code from 1945 to 1946. He trained at Fort Brag, NC and was stationed in Yokohama, Japan. Clarence was united in marriage to Lola A. Schrupp at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Granite Falls, MN, on January 16, 1949. He worked with his father doing carpentry and cement work, then moved to St. Paul to work for the Whirlpool Corporation for 32 years. He moved to Litchfield in 1985, where he worked at Litchfield Woolen Mills before retiring. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. He served as a member of the Litchfield Honor Guard. Clarence was a member of First Lutheran Church, where was an usher, until his health failed. He enjoyed working with wood, making crafts, carving, playing the guitar, and dancing. His first priority in life was his family and siblings. Clarence is survived by his wife, Lola of Litchfield, MN; children Kathlene (and Tom) Palm of Little Falls, MN, Curtis (and Wendy) Schlenner of St. Paul, MN, Allan (and Kate) Schlenner of Willow River, MN, Randy Schlenner of St. Paul, MN and Julie (and Mike) Ross of Litchfield, MN; 9 grandchildren, Kimberly Hartman, Timothy Dawson, James Dawson, Tammy Smith, Andrea Friend, Robert Schlenner, Scot Schlenner, Aubrey Ross and Andrew Ross; 12 great grandchildren, Camellia, Nicole, Tianna, Zandalee, Shawn, Bailey, Abbey, Kaylene, Breanna, Lee, Hannah and Logan; brother, Alvin (and Elaine) Schlenner of Montevideo, MN; sisters, Bernice Norman of East Grand Forks, MN, Marjorie Groathuis of Willmar, MN, Dorothy Schrupp of Granite Falls, MN and Delores (and Merlyn) Wallen of Marshall, MN; and sister-in-law Elaine Schlenner of Woodbury, MN.
